Up to 50 knots of wind, conditions I’ve never experienced before!
After spending 3.5 month in Tenerife to prepare for the season, I decided to stay for a week in France on the way back home. The wind forecast was amazing and as the French level of racing is high, I thought it would be a great training to do their national event in Marignane.
The place is known for some crazy strong mistral winds, but so far every time I visited Marignane, I never got to experience it. This time it was different, we had mega strong winds for 3 days making us battle on the smallest equipment possible.
Gusts hitting 50 knots was something I haven’t been windsurfing in before, it was crazy, but awesome.
In total we managed to do 4 eliminations on the fin, of which I won 3. And one elimination on the foil, of which I managed to become 2nd. Getting a double podium during the first event of the year felt good and puts me into a good position going into the season. I can’t wait for the next race.
Fin results:
1. Jordy Vonk (NED-69)
2. Pierre Mortefon (FRA-14)
3. Cedric Bordes (FRA-99)
Foil results:
1. Pierre Mortefon (FRA-14)
2. Jordy Vonk (NED-69)
3. Thomas Goyard (FRA-3)
