Wrapping up the 2024 season with a 5th place finish in Japan—my best Foil Slalom result to date!

Heading into the event, I knew I had to deliver to maintain my spot in the top 10. The points were tight between a few of us, and with no discards allowed this season, the stakes were clear: whoever finished ahead would secure higher ground in the rankings.

Upon arriving in Japan, I was greeted with incredible conditions. During the two days I had to prepare on-site, I tested my entire range of sails, from 5.4 to 8.7. Feeling well-prepared, I was ready for whatever came my way.

The forecast initially promised three solid days of racing, but unexpected rain reduced it to just two. Despite the shortened schedule, I managed to qualify for three out of four winners’ finals—a consistent performance that kept me in the top 8 throughout.

My final results for the event were 4th, 11th, 5th, and 4th in the four eliminations, securing me a 5th place overall in Japan. Most importantly, I finished ahead of all my key rivals, which bumped me up to 7th place in the 2024 Foil Slalom rankings—a strong leap forward compared to last year!

Closing the foil season on such a positive note feels incredible. I was far more competitive this year compared to previous seasons, though I still felt my results didn’t always reflect my potential. Achieving a top 5 finish now leaves me motivated and hungry for more in the seasons ahead!
